7/1/09, by Ed: Hey group, happy July! Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Is it just me, or is this year going by really fast...? Already halfway over... Just a quick update today as to recent going-ons. Well, actually, I'll go right for the squimples: After about a week of interviews, I was offered - and accepted - my first job as a real high school teacher! (As opposed to the fake kind? @_@) It's not in the region I was hoping for, but I mustn't be too picky, considering the tough market and economy, and, in fact, this was the only district that so much as called me in the first place. And it certainly seems like a good one, too; the area seems very upscale and pretty, and the school itself is clean, modern, and just plain big, as far as I can tell. Also, I wasn't hired primarily as a math or physics teacher, which is surprising considering that's what I'm certified to be. Instead, they were most interested in my history with computer science, and so I'll be in charge of directing their programming class(es), as well as teaching geometry and algebra. Seems like I'm to be their versatile filler of whatever position they happen to have a need for, which is fine by me so long as it's something I can do. So I think that's the only breaking news here. I'll keep y'all posted with anything else of moderate interest. Finally, a break from filling out all those darn applications... ._. 6/14/09, by Ed: I'm a scientist. As a scientist, I make conclusions based upon observations. I have a conclusion based upon an observation. Do you like Statistics? Me neither. But sometimes it helps identify interesting trends. Last weekend, I went to Columbus to visit Alex and Jessica. During the course of said weekend, I completed three drawings, and worked on a fourth. It reminded me of just how productive I was when I lived in Columbus last year and went to Alex's house on a daily basis. As a matter of fact, in further consideration of this phenomenon, I developed a scatter plot of the release dates of my comic pages over the past two years. Do you notice a correlation? I think I do. I'm left to conclude that something in Columbus yields some sort of radiation that elicits artistic productivity. I don't know if it's something they put in their water, or if Alex himself emits some kind of influential contagious aura. Whatever it is, it's apparently working. I wonder if I can submit that as my thesis... 6/4/09, by Ed: Thank you to those in the chat box who introduced the past two months for me! ._. Here's a quick update as to what's been going on over here lately. Not much to say, really; the spring semester ended, and, with nary a chance to breathe, the summer session kicked in, so I'm back to school, once again! O.o As mentioned, I was involved in my student teaching experience the past couple months, and that ended a couple weeks ago. It really was interesting and worthwhile, I learned a lot during my time there, and in just those two months, I really grew fond of those kids, as they have of me, so it was rather sad to leave them. But now, with that experience under my belt, I've got just two more half semesters to go, one more Praxis test (next weekend), and I will be a qualified high school teacher! ...Wow, that's scary... ._. In the midst of school stuff, I attended another wedding in the family (of which there will be many in the months to come), as well as a family vacation, neither of which I was really prepared for due to the hustle and bustle of everything else I had to get done. Shortly upon our return, sadly, we lost both our dogs just a few days apart from one another due to independent causes. Didn't see that coming either... =( As far as site stuff, as always, fear not, it is receiving attention behind the scenes; I've never abandoned it, and don't plan to. In fact, the other day I was randomly clicking around my drawings, and realized how much I miss the hobby. =( So I am eager to get back into it, but unfortunately it largely depends on how kind my school work is to me (which, as you know, lately has been not very), as well as other responsibilities. That said, I hope everyone is doing well out there! You're always welcome to post in the forums or chatbox to keep the community alive; I always follow both! 4/13/09, by Ed: Happy Easter! In honor of the traditional scavenger hunt games that tend to take place during the Easter season, I'd like to propose a new contest, for whoever's interested. Your goal is to find an occurrence of something Middlecenter-related in the real world, and send a picture of it. Naturally, because MC is by no means a widely marketed franchise, you won't actually find anything directly relevant out there; besides, that'd be too easy. Also, this is not a contest in which you're supposed to make something either. No, you gotta find something out there that, in some sort of twisted interpretation or another, could somehow be taken to be a reference to Middlecenter. This is a rather ambiguous assignment, but that means it's open for variation. Surprise me! =D The deadline will probably be in a few weeks, but I want to leave it open long enough for everyone to hear about it and have a chance to participate. After all, I want to provide something interesting for you guys to come back to see! Happy hunting! 4/6/09, by Ed: Yay! Snow! Again! =D So, I thought it's about time to offer another update as to the going-ons over here, to those whom it may concern. Yes, I'm still attending class like usual, which, of course, inherently also implies the tedious amount of homework that requisitely goes along with it. And that stinks, as always. However, at the same time, although I had to temporarily drop out of my job (which also stinks), it was so that I could take up student teaching during the day. Yeah, that's right, I'm back in a high school setting now, but now finally in front of the class, boring the students rather than being bored myself. =P Nah, hopefully I keep it interesting as it can be, like my favorite teachers did for me throughout the years; after all, they're my primary inspiration. It's really strange being in this position, though, and being addressed as "Mr. Mason"; I've already slipped up and introduced myself to the students as "Ed" a few times, because most often I don't even feel much older than these kids (when in reality they're 10 years younger than me); I still feel like I'm fresh out of high school myself. (After considering it for a while, I blame it on my college years, which, looking back, almost seem like they never happened. Thanks, CSU. =/) Anyway, I'm teaching 9th grade Chemestry at the moment, but in a couple of weeks they'll be starting their Physics unit, which is what I was brought aboard for, and one of the fields that I plan to teach in my full-time career (along with math). I've actually got three major "Praxis" tests coming up for this certification program soon too (Physics, Math, and Education), so I'm hoping for the best there. But despite the sort of inner-city crowd I'm working with, I actually find it lots of fun, so I hope it continues to be, so as to offer an optimistic prospect for the years to come. In what little free time I have left, among other things, yes, I am working on site-related stuff too, so as always, it's not as though I've quit updates altogether; I just need time and patience to get through everything that needs to be done. Naturally, I hope said updates can come about sooner than later, but ultimately that depends on how all these factors and obligations treat me. Stay tuned, and I'll offer any futher updates as they may arise. 4/1/09, by Ed: Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit, again! 3/23/09, by Ed: Have I told, you lately, that I hate school... *goes back to homework now that he wasted enough time writing that* 3/1/09, by Ed: Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit! Where did February go? ._. I meant to have another page ready by now, but it seems I haven't had time to start it yet. Did I mention I hate school...? Also, in related news, I'll be starting student teaching later this month. I'm not sure how much I'm looking forward to that, considering the community in which I'll be stationed... In any case, it's one mroe thing that I'll be up to in the near future. 2/7/09, by Ed: It took a long time, but I'm glad to say that Page 115 is up this weekend! Finally! ._. And I still hate school. 2/4/09, by Ed: This just in: GRAHH, I HATE SCHOOL!! RRRRR~!! =( That is all. 1/12/09, by Ed: Alright, after a horribly busy couple months, I finally got around to finishing up the page that I'd started three months ago! o_o Page 114 is long overdue! ...I mean up...! >_> For all updates (beware, who knows how long it may be!), Click here. |
